Building a game where history isn't discovered...
it's chosen.
There are countless games about saving the world.
I wanted to build one about remembering it.
Archive is a narrative investigation game where civilization has already collapsed. Humanity's knowledge survives, but only as fragmented memories, contradictory records, and forgotten stories.
“Who decides what history remembers?”
Instead of fighting enemies or collecting loot, players investigate history itself.
Every memory begins as a historical article. Every investigation uncovers new evidence. Every decision permanently shapes the civilization that follows.
📖 Historical Memories
Stories are presented as beautifully formatted historical documents rather than quest descriptions.
🔍 Multiple Investigation Paths
Government files, witness testimonies, forensic reports and personal journals all reveal different perspectives.
⚖️ Contradictory Evidence
Evidence isn't always consistent. Two convincing documents may tell completely different stories.
🏛 Civilization Building
The ending isn't based on winning. It's based on the history you chose to preserve.
The Philosophy Behind Archive
Most games treat lore as optional reading.
I wanted to reverse that idea.
In Archive, the lore is the gameplay. Every historical record exists to be questioned, investigated and interpreted.
"If history remembered only the choices you left behind... what kind of civilization would future generations believe existed?"

Final Thoughts
Archive started as a game jam submission. Somewhere along the way, it became something much more personal.
It became an exploration of memory, truth, and the stories humanity chooses to carry forward.
History doesn't disappear.
It changes...
one choice at a time.
